Can you believe its November already? This year has flown by and with the recent annual Health and Fitness Survey released its time to look at emerging trends for 2019. In 2018 we saw the rise of the HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), boxing, more gym openings and the release of wearable fitness technology such as trackers and smart watches but where will 2019 take us?

Wearable Technology

The wearable technology trend stays on top for yet another year, the demand for the tracking devices is higher than ever and with constant improvements within the market, brands are battling against each other to stay on top trying to offer the most advanced tech. 

Fitness trackers are a motivational boost for your workouts, they provide you with information such as your heart rate, calories burned during workout and are great for tracking your weekly exercise. So treat yourself to an Apple Smartwatch or a Fitbit and you will notice a difference in your workout routine, this is definitely an investment purchase for 2019!

30 Minute Workouts

Time can often be an issue and with our busy schedules it’s often hard to fit those workouts in. The new emerging trend focuses on 30-minute workouts that deliver maximum results through high intensity training. It’s proven that short daily workouts can boost our general health and well being some benefits include: weight loss, stress reduction and mood improvement.

In other words HIIT workouts are still on the rise and for some people it’s all about gaining the most out of their session in the shortest possible amount of time.

Group Training

The possibilities of group training are endless and its taking over the popularity of personal training sessions. Let’s be honest, this is a trend we are happy to see! It’s a great way to achieve results in a fun way and of course you can bring your friends and family along. Next time you are at your local gym find out what group sessions they run, you might be in for a pleasant surprise!

Health and wellness coaching focuses on the mental, social and emotional aspects of your fitness journey. Although the end goal for most people when exercising is weight loss for others it could be to improve their mental health. There has been an increase in coaching sessions becoming available at local gyms which has been identified as a trend for 2019.

There are many benefits linked to yoga such as improving flexibility, building muscle strength, correcting posture, as well as improving blood and sugar levels. 

Yoga is becoming a very popular gym class option and even one hour a week will allow you to experience the health benefits that it brings. Remember you don’t have to be flexible to do yoga!
